My least favorite month is over

It’s over; my least favorite month. Where I live, November is always dark, rainy, and sometimes very windy. The days are so short it is hard to get anything done outside. If you wait until it stops raining it is again dark and cold. Summer is definitely over and the days keep getting shorter. When I worked for the power company it wasn’t if there were going to be storms, but how many. Every year I’d work through the night and several days straight before getting home to sleep in my own bed. It’s too cold to play golf, not enough snow to go skiing, and too dark to go for a bike ride.
Today it is December. Now there are many things to look forward to. Two of my favorites are seeing all the Christmas decorations and the joy so many children seem to radiate. All the kids seem to bounce rather than walk. The streets are brighter with all the Christmas lights. Some neighborhoods go all out and the whole street comes alive with holiday displays. For me it feels like a new beginning; that there are better days ahead, and as a group we all care about one another. It’s colder, but with the lights and the freshly fallen snow, the world is brighter. Take some time to enjoy the holiday season.
