Math and writing are so different. In math, two plus two equals four. In writing, just changing the words around can create a whole different meaning. Sometimes I search and search for the correct word, and none seem to be the “right” one. I have to make sure I don’t use the same word too many times. In math all I have to do is find X. In writing I have to worry about present tense, past tense and future tense. In math it’s only the answer to the problem.
Math is concrete while writing is abstract. On a math test if I get the answer wrong I get no credit. In a campaign speech I can say anything and later deny it or say it meant something else. When writing fiction I can just make stuff up. All I have to do is be convincing enough so that each reader believes it is possible, even if X marks the spot.
