As we get older we tend to forget things. Well, I don’t think it’s forgetting as much as it is not enough RAM. We all have important stuff to remember; certain dates that shouldn’t be forgotten, like our anniversaries, or our spouses’ birthdays. Then there are events that have happened to us or around us we remember and the older we get the more of them there are. The birth of our first child, the birth of the first grandchild, weddings, vacations, graduating from high school, 9/11, getting the best job in the world, or getting fired are events we tend to remember forever.
So as we get older any new event we need to remember has to replace an event already in our brain. With most of the space already taken up by memorable events, it takes a lot to boot something out. Sure, there are things we remember that we have no use for now or anytime in the future. For me it’s racing in California at night and having the full moon flash across in front of me and I think it’s an oncoming car. I’d be fine if I had an external hard drive to store more stuff. Sometimes I have to go back to my list of characters for my book to remember their names. Now where was I?
