There are many places in the world I’d like to see, but Lisbon, Portugal isn’t high on the list. And yet right now I wish I was there. Not so much because of the beautiful city, but because of what is going on in the city. Right now Rotary is having its international convention. Probably doesn’t sound that exciting to anyone else. The reason for me is simple: do good stuff.
You see there are over 1.2 million Rotarians around the world in over 200 hundred countries. There are over 30,000 clubs, each having an impact on their local communities. These are men and women who have come together to figure out the how and then they do. They don’t ask for recognition, status, or acknowledgement. They just want to help. Rotary took on the challenge of eradicating Polio and today the world is so close it hurts not to get there. And yet rather than dwell on the negative, Rotarians around the world push harder, using all the skills and knowledge from their different cultures, and countries to find solutions.
These are people who find answers, develop plans, complete the projects, and move on to the next project. Providing water to the billion people who don’t have access to safe water is next. Never underestimate the power of people working together.
