Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon

I’ve been to Boston once a long time ago. But I have a number of friends who have run the Boston marathon: my first grade girlfriend’s husband, my best friend in high school, the president of my Rotary Club, and a first grade teacher have been among the marathoners. Two of them ran last year, and had friends and family waiting for them at the finish line across the street from one of the bombs. Any one of them could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time this year.

Is terrorism more present today than twenty years ago or do we just have instant communications that makes it seem that way? The ingenuity of the human race to make things bigger, stronger, and more powerful continues. Innocent people were the victims. People who volunteer within their communities taking care of the poor, the hungry, and the weak. The pain I feel for the victims is nothing like it would be if I were the last one to have hugged a loved one as he or she boarded an airplane to fly back to run the Boston Marathon. Some people will have nightmares about the bombings, but I hope the sweeter dreams of the many will overcome these tragedies.
