Because I’m the Taxman

Because I’m the Taxman

We all have to do it and we all have until April 15th. You know what I’m talking about: filing our federal tax return. I’ve always taken pride in being able to do it myself. I used to get all the forms at the post office, usually in less than three trips. I’d sit down at my desk and spread out the forms, gather all the receipts from the previous year and begin. There are the deductions; property taxes, housing interest, business expenses, medical, and so forth.

Now I use a software program to help and file online which makes it much easier, but still complicated. It shouldn’t take a degree in accounting to file one’s personal taxes should it? We all have the deductions we can’t live without and so do a lot of businesses. But still shouldn’t the process be much easier? Well, maybe not. Think of all the job losses. You’d have all the unemployed CPAs, tax code lawyers, auditors, debt collectors, software designers, plus all the advertisers on television, websites, radio, and even newspapers. Maybe I should take this year’s filings to my friendly CPA and go sit on the beach and watch the sunset.
