How many Nelson Mandelas would it take in Congress to solve our budget crisis? Would it take more than one? Maybe one in each party would work. Whatever the number, we need to find them now. It is time to solve problems not kick them down the road a couple of months or just past the next election. This partisan bickering has gone on way too long. The entrenched Washington bureaucracy has overpowered the needs of those who actually sent them to Washington. But who’s running for office these days?
People who run are thinking about themselves. They want to be rich and famous just like all the others before them. They want to be recognized and have all the special privileges most of us can’t afford. They want us to look up to them so they feel important. The truth is we don’t like any of them. Every political speech I heard before the last election was about “How I can work across the aisle with the other party.” The reality is they didn’t. So show me some leadership. Step out of the Washington box and deliver. Because right now, I wouldn’t vote for one Congress person running for reelection.
