Batteries, how many of us could make it through the day without using at least ten different ones? There are different sizes, different voltages, and different types. There are batteries in our computers, phones, tablets, cars, and don’t forget all the remotes. I’ve already used five different batteries and I’ve only been awake for half an hour. As I look around my home office I see at least eight different things that need batteries.
When the power goes out how many of our possessions have a limited time before they will stop working? Our cars today are all electronic, run on batteries. We click the remote to unlock the car and the lights come on. When I turn off my car the radio/cd/tape/iPod keeps playing for ten minutes or until I open the door. Some batteries are rechargeable, but many aren’t. Count the number you’ve tossed out in the last month. Businesses are required to have disposal programs to get rid of old batteries. Most of us just toss them in the garbage. We all need to learn how to recycle them.
