Writing is not easy for me. I can’t spell, have difficulty with tenses, and I write in a passive voice. For other writers it must be easy. They may do a rough draft, edit the story once and are done. Me I write, edit, rewrite, edit, get critiqued, read, edit again, and then let it simmer for a few days and edit again. When I’m brave enough to give it to my English major spouse, I wait to see if there will be at least one page without any red marks.
I remember working on two paragraphs in Scent of Danger all one day trying to replace different words using my “Family Word Finder”and Microsoft Word Synonyms. I’d change one word and then it wouldn’t fit with the rest of the paragraph. If I had known how difficult it was to write I probably wouldn’t have started. My problem is once I start something I have to finish. Then I found out a book is never finished, I just can’t make it any better right now, so I have to move on. So yes there are a few mistakes in my first book, but when I reissue it, I’ll correct them.
